Police arrest 31-year-old man connected to hit-and-run in Miramar that left victim in critical condition

Police on Thursday arrested a man connected to a hit-and-run in Miramar. Tremaine Maurice Herbert, 31, is facing several charges, which include leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury, tampering with evidence and driving with a suspended license.He appeared in bond court Friday morning where a judge gave him a $36,000 bond and is not allowed to drive nor make contact with the victim. Herbert has since paid his bond and is expected to be released from jail Friday afternoon. According to Miramar Police, the incident happened on March 4 when Jahmaar Williams, 31, was crossing Pembroke Road, near the 6500 block and was struck by a vehicle. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition. During their investigation, police were able to track down the BMV that hit Williams, which ultimately led them to Herbert. (AP) — The Miami Dolphins are placing veteran left tackle Terron Armstead on injured reserve because of a knee injury he suffered in Week 4 against the Buffalo Bills, coach Mike McDaniel confirmed Friday.McDaniel said he expects Armstead to return at some point this season, but he’ll be sidelined for at least the next four games. His earliest return could be for a Week 9 matchup with Kansas City in Germany.Armstead appeared to have his leg rolled up in the second quarter of a 48-20 loss at Buffalo. He remained on the ground for a few minutes before slowly walking off the field at Highmark Stadium.Armstead missed Miami’s first two games of the season with lingering back, ankle and knee issues. ISANTI COUNTY, Minnesota (WCCO) — A cat in Minnesota is recovering after surviving a house explosion, and then keeping itself alive for more than a week in the wilderness.Miss Piggy, a 4-month-old kitten, was lost for eight days last month.When the homeowner’s daughter found her in the nearby woods, Miss Piggy was hurt and badly malnourished.“All four of her paw pads are completely burned, some down to the tendons,” Hannah Waggoner, who’s now fostering Miss Piggy, said. “[They’re] very deep, severe burns.”Waggoner says the cat’s pain is the worst part.“These animals are so fragile, but they’re so resilient, so it doesn’t surprise me in the slightest that she would be out there fighting for herself,” she said.Waggoner’s keeping Miss Piggy comfortable and bringing her regularly to Ruff Start Rescue in Princeton for vet care.“It makes you feel good when you can help in these situations, especially...

South Florida students were fired up thanks to the Miami Heat.The students at Central Park Elementary in plantation started their Friday with a pep rally that included dancing with Heat mascot Burnie and the Hoop Troop.The celebration was part of the How Low Can You Go challenge that is sponsored by the Miami Heat, which encourages schools to reduce the amount of energy and water they consume throughout the school year.“We were able to lower our energy consumption last year from the 2022-2023 school year and our kids did a great job,” said Lori Turner, principal at Central Park Elementary. “Our teachers worked really hard to promote the idea of conservation. We turned off computers, we turned off laptops, we also did our best to help keep our environment clean as well.”The pep rally also celebrated Green Sports Day, which helps connect environmental stewardship with athletic events.

A second suspect charged in connection with a shooting in Holyoke that injured a pregnant woman and killed her unborn child was held without bail Friday, the Hampden County District Attorney’s office announced. Johnluis Sanchez, 30, was arraigned two days after the shooting on Wednesday. His arraignment, in turn, came after another suspect, Alejandro Ramos, 22, was arraigned and held without bail on Thursday. Both Sanchez and Ramos have been charged with murder. The shooting happened in the 100 block of Sargeant Street around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. 2 charged with second-degree murder in quadruple Cabbagetown shooting

Toronto police have charged two Brampton men with second-degree murder in connection to a fatal shooting in Cabbagetown in September that also injured three other people.Police responded to the area of Dundas Street East and Sherbourne Street around 2:45 a.m. on Sept. 16 for the sounds of gunshots.Police say the suspects approached a group of people and started shooting at them.Two people in the group were taken to hospital in life-threatening condition, while two others were listed in critical condition.One of the victims has since died in hospital. Police have identified him as 33-year-old Kyle Provo (pictured below).Richard Baker, 48; and Nathan Bell, 37; have been charged with second-degree murder.
