CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — Three murderers are among 81 foreigners recently released in Australia after the High Court ruled their indefinite detention in migrant centers was unconstitutional, the immigration minister said on Tuesday.The court hasn’t released the reasons behind its ruling last week that overturned a 2004 precedent that stateless people could be detained indefinitely.The Melbourne-based Human Rights Law Center reported last month that 127 people had been detained more than five years. Rescue operation to save 40 workers trapped under a collapsed tunnel in north India enters 3rd day

LUCKNOW, India (AP) — Rescuers are working around the clock Tuesday to remove debris to extract 40 workers who have been trapped for over two days after an under-construction tunnel collapsed in northern India. Officials hope to extricate them in the next 24 hours.A 2.5-foot (0.76 meter)-wide steel pipe will be pushed through an opening of excavated debris with the help of hydraulic jacks to safely pull out the stranded workers, authorities said.About 200 rescuers from federal and state disaster relief agencies are using drilling equipment and excavators to reach them.The tunnel collapsed Sunday in Uttarakhand, a mountainous state dotted with Hindu temples that attract many pilgrims and tourists. Young woman found dead in Orange County identified

A tight-knit Orange County community is in shock after the body of a 27-year-old woman was found dead in an alley behind an old movie theater and a restaurant Sunday.  Officers with Laguna Beach Police Department responded after a construction worker discovered the  body of Tatum Goodwin “down in a secluded location” at around 8:20 a.m. near the 200 block of Ocean Avenue, a news release from the LBPD stated.  Police added that her body showed trauma consistent with a homicide.  “She was just such a loving, honest person,” a friend of the 27-year-old, Aleena Macintosh, told KTLA’s Mary Beth McDade. “You just wouldn’t think that anything would happen to her.”  Others who knew her say they are still in disbelief that the young, attractive member of their community was found under these tragic circumstances.  Tatum Goodwin, 27, was found dead in Laguna Beach on Nov. 12, 2023. Family of Joseph Gatto, shot, killed 10 years ago, still hoping for justice

The family of 78-year-old Joseph Gatto, who was shot to death inside his Silver Lake home 10 years ago, is still waiting for answers, but former State Assemblyman Mike Gatto said his family remains hopeful that his father’s killer will be found, and justice will be served.  Firefighters were called at about 8:15 p.m. on Nov. 13, 2013, to conduct a death investigation at a residence in the 2800 block of Bright Lane, where they found the body of the 78-year-old, slumped over at a desk, according to Lt.
