HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — Suspended Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is set to appear in court this week after years of delays in a securities fraud case against him. The hearing is scheduled for Thursday in Harris County. Hearing set in Ken Paxton’s securities fraud case Paxton faces felony charges and is accused of defrauding investors in a tech startup. AUSTIN (KXAN) — According to a report from The Athletic, Austin FC winger Diego Fagundez had been traded.Tom Bogert, The Athletic's national soccer reporter, reports that Fagundez has been traded to the LA Galaxy for midfielder Memo Rodriguez plus up to $900,000 in general allocation money. Bogert said the breakdown of the money is a guaranteed $300,000 going to Austin FC with an additional $600,000 possible.Fagundez signed a 3-year contract with Austin FC in February with a club option through the 2026 season. According to the MLS Players Association salary guide, Fagundez is set to make $1.06 million this season — fourth-most on the team.Fagundez scored the first goal in Austin FC history and was part of the original roster when Verde and Black began MLS play in 2021. Jurors awarded $11.5 million on Tuesday to the family of a man fatally shot by two St. Paul police officers in 2017.The jurors found on Monday that Officer Nathaniel Younce, who fired just before Officer Mikko Norman, violated Cordale Handy’s constitutional rights by using excessive force and that he’d wrongfully caused his death. They did not find the same for Norman.Handy’s mother, Kimberly Handy-Jones, filed a federal lawsuit, which went to trial last week and concluded Tuesday.The officers were not criminally charged in the shooting, but Monday’s verdict will prompt another look at the case, according to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the agency that originally investigated and presented findings to prosecutors.Younce testified that he fired because Handy, 29, was pointing a gun at Norman, who was his police partner. Injured hiker rescued by backpack in Adirondack High Peaks

NORTH ELBA, N.Y. (NEWS10) - Last week, a group of New York State Forest Rangers traveled into the Adirondacks to retrieve a hiker with an injured ankle. A team of seven rangers visited the Van Hoevenberg Trail on Monday, July 24. Get the latest news, weather, sports and entertainment delivered right to your inbox! The rangers reached the subject, an Auburn woman whose ankle was in unstable condition, near the trail's junction with Phelps Mountain. The hiker was placed in a backpack carrier once her ankle was stabilized. She was carried a mile to Marcy Dam, and then driven by a vehicle to Adirondack Loj Road. Her husband met her and the hikers there, and transported her to a hospital.The Van Hoevenberg Trail connects to Mt. Van Hoevenberg, intersecting with the trail to Phelps Mountain. One of the Adirondack High Peaks, Phelps Mountain climbs 4,161 feet of elevation. Mt. Van Hoevenberg ascends by 885 feet.

HUNTER, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- On July 25, DEC Forest Rangers responded to reports that multiple individuals were stranded due to flash flooding. Rescues were conducted at Kaaterskill Falls and Fawn's Leap. Get the latest news, weather, sports and entertainment delivered right to your inbox! One individual was located stranded below the lower falls at Kaaterskill Falls. Ranger Peterson managed to rescue the subject by tying a rope to a tree and wading through the creek. The water was approximately four feet deep with a strong current.DEC Forest Rangers then located seven individuals stranded on the side of Kaaterskill Creek. A high-angle rope rescue system was utilized to pull two subjects to safety. Forest Rangers and first responders set up an inflatable boat and rescued the remaining subjects. No one was injured. EPA rejects Suncor’s air-pollution permit for second time, demands Colorado regulators make changes

The Environmental Protection Agency on Tuesday announced that it objects to one of Suncor Energy’s new air-quality permits and kicked it back to Colorado environmental regulators to make changes that would further limit pollution coming from the Commerce City refinery.It is the second time the EPA has rejected the Title V air permit for Suncor’s Plant 2, which refines oil into gasoline and other fuels. The objection does not mean the plant has to shut down, and Suncor can continue operating under its old permit until the new one is resolved.The objection comes after multiple environmental groups, led by EarthJustice and 350 Colorado, filed petitions last fall asking the EPA to reconsider the permit because it did not do enough to limit Suncor’s pollution.The EPA is directing the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to determine whether additional operational requirements are needed to make sure Suncor complies with limits on the emission of carbon m...
