Santa Barbara Co. man convicted of child molestation charges

A Ventura County jury convicted 83-year-old Carillo Chavez of Lompoc of five felony counts of lewd conduct and substantial sexual conduct with a child under age 14 on Friday. On Monday, the same jury also found that the victim was vulnerable and Chavez took advantage of a trusted relationship with the victim in order to commit the crimes. According to a Ventura County District Attorney news release, Chavez, who was already a convicted child molester from 1995, sexually abused the young victim at least five times at two locations in Ventura County between October 2001 and October 2002.The young victim, who is now an adult, reported the crimes years later and Chavez was charged and convicted. "The prosecution team is grateful for the extended statute of limitations for child molestation that allowed this prosecution,” said Deputy District Attorney Reber, who prosecuted the case. “But for the tremendous bravery of the victim, justice could not have been done.”Chavez is s...

Anchor Steam not brewing Christmas beer, slashing distribution

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Historic San Francisco brewery Anchor Steam has announced it will not be brewing its annual Christmas beer this year and plans to drastically cut distribution. A spokesperson for the brewery, which has been operating in San Francisco since 1896, confirmed the changes to KRON4, citing a "combination of economic factors."Changes announced at the brewery, which is in Potrero Hill, include scaling back all distribution outside the state of California. The Golden State represents 70% of the beer's business, the spokesperson said. Until now, Anchor was distributed in all 50 states. Walnut Creek burglary suspect arrested in Sacramento County

(KRON) -- A suspect has been arrested in connection to a string of commercial burglaries in Walnut Creek, police announced Monday. The four burglaries occurred between September of 2022 and March of 2023, the Walnut Creek Police Department said.All four burglaries were reported in the 2400 block of Buena Vista Avenue. Walnut Creek PD sought the public's help by posting video and images of the suspect on social media. Thanks to several leads from the public, Walnut Creek PD was able to identify 36-year-old Joseph Alan Ramos as the suspect. ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Jacob deGrom had reconstructive surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow Monday, and Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said the procedure went well. The typical recovery time after the operation, commonly known as Tommy John surgery, is at least 12-14 months.
