LAKEWOOD  – After conquering his anxiety and unlocking his potential, Grand Junction senior Miller Jones leapt his way to the Class 4A long jump title Thursday at Jeffco Stadium.Jones lived up to his top-ranked status entering the CHSAA state meet, posting a mark of 23 feet, 4 inches. The championship jump bested runner-up Jayden Nohr of Roosevelt by 3.5 inches and marked a total turnaround from Jones’ performance in the event last year, when he finished 13th.“I’ve been present mentally to be able to put up these jumps,” Jones said. “I had some bad mental stuff last year, with really bad anxiety that affected (my performance). This year, it’s been a lot better. Dianne Feinstein’s office said Thursday that she is suffering from Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a complication from the shingles virus that can paralyze part of the face, and that she contracted encephalitis while recovering from the virus earlier this year.Feinstein, 89, had not previously disclosed those medical details, though she said in a statement last week that she had suffered complications from the virus. 'General Hospital' actress Haley Pullos arrested for DUI after wrong-way crash

"General Hospital" actress Haley Pullos faces DUI charges after authorities said she was involved in a violent wrong-way crash in Pasadena late last month.The accident occurred on April 29 when, according to a California Highway Patrol report, Pullos drove the wrong direction on the 134 Freeway and collided head-on with another vehicle near the Orange Grove exit.Both Pullos, 24, and the other driver were hospitalized with serious injuries.Authorities say Haley Pullos was driving in the wrong direction on the 134 Freeway in Pasadena when she collided with another vehicle. Man found dead in swimming pool at Encino home

The body of a man was pulled from a backyard swimming pool in Encino Thursday afternoon.  Personnel with the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to calls of a water rescue in the 17100 block of West McCormick Street just after 3 p.m., authorities said in a news release.  Sky5’s Gil Leyvas reported that first responders attempted life saving measures after getting the man out of the pool, but they were unable to resuscitate him. Firefighters responded to an Encino home where a deceased male was pulled from a backyard swimming pool May 18, 2023. (KTLA)No details were provided on how the man ended up in the pool or if officials with the Los Angeles Police Department are investigating the death.  

Each LeBron James assist in NBA Conference Finals will help a dog in Ohio get adopted

While LeBron James is trying to will his Los Angeles Lakers to the NBA Finals, he's also helping out some adoptable dogs in his hometown.James, who was born in Akron, Ohio, helped nine dogs get adopted following Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals series between the Lakers and Denver Nuggets Tuesday.Humane Society of Summit County, the county where Akron is located, has partnered with the ASPCA Pet Health Insurance program (APHI) to offer an assist to some adoptable dogs and cats and is following LeBron's lead.For each assist recorded by James in the Conference Finals, the APHI is chipping in to cover adoption fees at the shelter. In Tuesday's loss against the Nuggets, James scored 26 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out 9 assists. That means adoption fees were covered for nine animals in Ohio.The adoption fees will be applied to the animals who have been in the shelter the longest, APHI said.
