Judge throws out attorney's request to remove her from Delphi murders case

CARROLL COUNTY, Ind. -- Judge Fran Gull has thrown out the filing made by former Richard Allen defense attorney Bradley Rozzi that argued that Gull should be removed from the Delphi murders case due to claims that the judge pressured the defense attorneys to withdraw themselves from the high profile case. The move comes after a flurry of exchanges between the former defense attorney and the Allen County judge following a shocking court hearing last week that ended with Gull announcing that both of Allen's defense attorneys would be withdrawing from the case. New data released Friday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show influenza activity ramping up in several U.S. states. Last week, six "jurisdictions" (states or territories) had moderate or high flu activity, up from just two jurisdictions the week before. The situation is most serious in Alaska, where flu activity is high. In Florida, Hawaii, New Mexico, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., flu activity is moderate, according to the CDC. ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. — Two attorneys have been appointed to defend Richard Allen on two counts of murder in the killings of Abby Williams and Libby German outside of Delphi in 2017.On Friday, the Carroll County court system appointed Attorney Robert Scremin and Attorney William S. Lebrato as contract public defenders in Allen's case. Bally's Casino gets permanent operating license, extension at Medinah Temple

CHICAGO — Chicago's first casino has now cleared a regulatory hurdle.First reported by Crain's Chicago Business, the Illinois Gaming Board unanimously approved a full operating license for Bally's Chicago Casino. The license will be valid at the casino's temporary home, Medinah Temple, and its future location, River West. The State's Gaming Board also approved a 12-month extension for the casino's temporary site in River North. The extension runs through 2026 for a total of 36 months while the casino's permanent facility is constructed. 3D mammograms coming to Caldwell County for the first time

LULING, Texas (KXAN) - Patients in Caldwell County will no longer have to travel out of the county to get three-dimensional mammograms. Ascension Seton Edgar B. Davis announced it is now the first and only hospital in the county to provide the imaging test that combines several breast X-rays to create a 3D picture. The new machine is replacing 2D imagining the hospital previously offered. It's worth noting, according to the hospital, it's also the only permanent spot in the county offering any mammograms. The Lone Star Circle of Care Big Pink Bus' service area does include Caldwell County. The hospital is located in Luling. It'll start taking appointments for the new machine starting Nov. 1.According to the National Cancer Institute, studies have not yet conclusively determined whether 3D mammograms are better than 2D mammography at identifying early cancers, advanced cancers and avoiding false-positive results.

Loons leader Manny Lagos takes new role with MLS club

Manny Lagos is taking another position at Minnesota United, and the St. Paul native will be further from the Loons’ to-be-determined new sporting hierarchy.Lagos was MNUFC’s first Sporting Director for its MLS expansion, starting in 2017, and he went on to a higher managerial role as the club’s new Chief Soccer Officer after the 2019 season. Troy man pleads guilty to Walmart firearm theft

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Troy man has pled guilty in a theft case, according to the United States Attorney's Office. Michael McDermott, 30, now faces up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of up to 3 years. McDermott admitted to breaking into the Glenmont Walmart on May 10 while the business was closed, smashing the glass gun case, and stealing six firearms. He also admitted to pointing a firearm at employees upon them chasing him into the woods. McDermott was arraigned on May 23 and his trial began at the end of July. His sentencing is scheduled for February 26, 2024.

New orchard owner carries on a hero's legacy
